What is sleep apnea?
Sleep apnea is a condition in which a person’s breathing is regularly interrupted during sleep. Obstructive sleep apnea, which is the most common kind of sleep apnea, is caused by relaxed throat muscles obstructing the airway.
What are the symptoms of sleep apnea?
Symptoms can include:
Pauses in breathing while sleeping
Gasping for air while sleeping
Loud snoring
Dry mouth upon waking
Morning headaches
Insomnia (difficulty staying asleep) or hypersomnia (difficulty staying awake)
Difficulties paying attention
Irritability
